The reactor pressure vessel is the core equipment of the pressurized water reactor nuclear power plant. It is the sealed vessel which places the reactor core and bears the operating pressure. It is also the most important safety barrier which contains the radioactive material not to leak. It is also the main equipment which can not be replaced in the nuclear power plant. The reactor pressure vessel of Karachi K3 project was independently developed and designed by China Nuclear Power Research and Design Institute, and the reactor pressure vessel was successfully hoisted in place, which marked that Karachi Unit 3 had entered the stage of equipment installation.
 
Starting at 11:36 a.m. on September 4th, the reactor pressure vessel was officially opened and installed. In order to ensure that the reactor pressure vessel of K3 project can be hoisted and put in place smoothly, the nuclear power institute sent a design representative to the site not far away to escort the entire installation process.
 
With careful and comprehensive preparations, careful operation and coordination, the reactor pressure vessel has been hoisted and put in place once, and has been steadily dropped into the reactor pit.
 
The hoisting and positioning scheme of pressure vessel of Karachi K3 unit is different from that of Fuqing No. 5 unit and K2 unit. The pressure vessel of K3 unit adopts the open-top method to pre-introduce the installation process, and the pressure vessel turnover scheme is no longer the overturning bracket with overturning embracing ring, but a new type of overturning frame. The implementation of the new scheme can reduce the installation and operation time of on-site hoisting tools, but due to the first use, the lack of relevant experience increases the uncertainty of the hoisting process. In order to ensure the smooth lifting of the pressure vessel, the technical personnel and relevant experts of the Nuclear Power Institute have participated in the demonstration of the scheme for many times, pointing out that various risks should be avoided in the installation process, and providing technical support for the smooth implementation of the scheme...
